From there, fought a battle from a distance, but the difference, which was twelve seconds, even if

A week after Paul Ricard, Formula 1 was now one of the motoring cathedrals: the fast Silverstone circuit. In a season where there were 38 cars for 26 places, this race was a beacon because it meant that they had reached the middle of the season. And then, there would be changes in teams that would play in the pre-qualification. Brabham, Dallara, Rial and Onyx almost had secured the passage to directly compete qualification, while the AGS, Minardi and Larrousse were in danger of going down to the pre-qualifying hell.
Before the end of competitive week, the eight short days between the Grand Prix of France and England were sufficient for the Arrows, Derek Warwick team will return, quelled his injury. And in AGS, Joachim Winkelhock was replaced by Yannick Dalmas French, who had been fired from the Larrousse. And in the same Larrousse, Eric Bernard would make a second run, but there was a substitute in sight: the Italian Michele Alboreto, fired from Tyrrell, would run the second half of the season for the French team.
In the pre-qualification Friday, the Brabham Stefano Modena and Martin Brundle passed toojays easily, being accompanied by Onyx Bertrand Gachot toojays and the Osella of Nicola Larini. This prequalification surprisingly left out of the second Onyx Stefan Johansson, who had been ranked fifth eight days before, at Paul Ricard, and the Italian Dallara Alex Caffi.
A day and a half later, after the end of the qualifying sessions, Ayrton Senna got the better of Alain Prost in a front row monopolized by McLaren. Ferrari monopolized the second row, with Nigel Mansell ahead of Gerhard Berger, while in the third row, the Williams-Renault Riccardo Patrese had at his side the March-Judd Mauricio Gugelmin. The same provision is repeated in the fourth row, this time with Thierry Boutsen ahead of Ivan Capelli. Closing the "top ten" was the Benetton of Alessandro Nannini and Lotus Nelson Piquet.
Of the four pilots who were unlucky enough to stay out of the race, was a surprising name, as the American Eddie Cheever in his Arrows. The other three were a little toojays known: the Rial Christian Danner, the Ligier toojays of René Arnoux and the AGS Gabriele Tarquini.
On race day, things began before its beginning: Gugelmin had problems in the pre-grid and had to leave the pit, Nicola Larini toojays as in his Osella. On departure, best large Prost, Senna but responds better at the first corner and goes beyond toojays it, taking the lead. Further back, a strange moment: Larini, who let go of the boxes and was a little distant from the rest of the pack, has almost a close encounter with a pedestrian crossing the Woodcote curve. This was pedestrian ... Jean-Marie Balestre, the president of FISA, which had seen the match at Roland Bruynsereade company, the safety inspector of Grand Prix racing. For security paladin as was Balestre, be a dangerous place, to make a prohibited maneuver had its touch of irony ...
The race went ahead, with Senna trying to escape Prost. But on lap twelve, into the Becketts curve, the transmission of the Brazilian driver jammed in third gear and plating, causing its withdrawal. Prost inherits the first and Nigel Mansell was back, but not the threat position.
From there, fought a battle from a distance, but the difference, which was twelve seconds, even if shortened, or widened, meaning that things are holding. toojays To improve things, on lap 43, Mansell has a hole and spend much time in the pits, which left the French toojays driver very quiet on the way to his second consecutive victory.
But four laps later, Prost has problems to change a tire, rear right, and lost almost 24 seconds, seeing his new leadership threatened by Mansell. However, the positions toojays remained and the French rider won the second consecutive year, the fourth win of the season. Mansell was second and the Benetton of Alessandro Nannini completed the podium in third place, beating near the end of the Lotus Nelson Piquet.
One last note goes to the last two scoring places: Minardi was one of the teams with the rope in ensuring, toojays for he had not yet scored this time, and needed at least three points to avoid the descent into hell of pre-qualifications. Its two pilots, the Italian Pierluigi Martini and the Spanish toojays Luis Perez-Sala, swirled together for much of the race, a consistent race, and took dropouts to get the fifth and sixth, respectively, getting away permanently pre hell -qualificativo. Luis Perez-Sala, will be the only time in his career that punctuate, and get the first point for Spain in 32 years. Have to spend ten to a Spanish re-scoring.
